Tablets vs laptops for notetaking

I have always been a big laptop person ever since I was in high school, but I’ve been hearing that the future of taking notes in class is tablets. The ease of carrying it, the responsiveness and utilities and price are points I’ve heard in regards to the benefits of tablets, as well as being able to use a stylus to actually write, and the writing will be transformed into text. Back in my day, I only saw tablets as something for kids to play on or to read books, but if it’s actually competitive with (or beats) laptops in notetaking and staying organized then I might just try it out.

so for those of you who make the conscious decision only use laptops, only use tablets, or have used both, why do you prefer to take notes with a laptop/tablet and is it worth getting a tablet?
for tablet users, is it annoying to have to hold it upright all the time or do you use it in a different way than how I see ppl use them?
