I will be buying (or winning!) a new laptop in 2025 and I have been considering how much RAM to go for. My current Lenovo Ideapad has 8 GB and has been a good machine, but I think it would make sense to go for a minimum of 16 GB this time.
Since most (all?) modern laptops have the RAM soldered to the motherboard, it isn't like it used to be with old laptops where it was easy and cheap to just buy replacement memory. Find yourself short of RAM now and you have a big problem!
32 GB is probably more than most people will need. 16 GB should be enough for most people for the next few years. Some people could get away with 8 GB but I think it makes sense to future-proof a new purchase by doubling up.
What do you think?
