  • Hello my name is Tonatiu Cristobal, I was born and raised in Mexico. When I was 9 years old I moved to the United States and was able to adapt to a new culture and learn a new language as well at such a young age. Becoming an occupational therapist and majoring in psychology is a plan I strive for within 20 years from now. I participated in advanced classes since middle school and high school years obtaining 30 hours of college dual credit.

Becoming an occupational therapist and majoring in psychology is a plan I strive for within 20 years from now. I have obtained the chance of becoming a leader throughout high school and sports. Being a leader has taught me the importance of setting an example to others. A good team or group cannot perform well without someone in control and responsible enough to guide them towards success. However in order to become a leader a huge responsibility is involved because you have to motivate your group and be an image they can look up to at all times to improve. For example, when I was captain for my high school soccer team I had an important leadership role on and off the field with my teammates all the time. I was in charge of making sure everyone would pass their classes and give their best performance during game time.

This was very challenging at first, but thanks to my discipline and goals I was able to dominate this role. It was a very fun and unforgettable experience that I’ll love to experience again. Thanks to this experience I want to become a leader for families and people who struggle with mental disorders such as autism to allow them to be closer to their families and form a better family bond. I live in a household with my brother who has autism, and growing up with him has been challenging to him and us as a family where we have struggled to get closer to him. However this condition has not stopped me or my family from being the family we want to be. We have obtained a lot of help from therapists that have teached us better ways to connect with him. This has motivated me to become someone to look up to when it comes to topics like autism. In order for me to be this type of leader I plan on spending time with kids who have autism and families teaching them how their behaviors work and different exercises they need to know to become closer. I plan on taking this journey after I graduate and obtain my masters degree in psychology.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Helping others has always pushed me to be a better person everyday in order to be seen as a leader or someone to follow. I plan on obtaining a degree in psychology during college. This would allow me to become an occupational therapist. I want to be able to teach and get closer to kids with mental disorders like autism
