We recently asked our Lenovo recruitment team (Krista Jaeckel, Erin Jernigan, and Jane Shephard) to share some tips for working at a global corporation. Their answers are below.

What are some tips for working at a global corporation?
 

Krista Jaekel:

Good communication skills both verbal and written. Being able to work in a team environment especially with people who are different from yourself. Being respectful. Have an open mind.
 

Erin Jernigan:

- Ability to listen and understand another point of view

- Using time wisely during meetings to avoid back-forth between time zones

- Adjust your communication styles accordingly

- Flexibility
 

Jane Shephard:

Be engaged - look for opportunities to volunteer and take advantage of a global team to meet and collaborate with others from different backgrounds.

    There are both federal and state laws that making some questions illegal.   An example, an interviewer cannot ask an job applicant if they are pregnant.

    In some cases that's very good advice but it depends on your career there.  I worked for one and if you spent too much time at overseas locations you often missed out on US Head Office promotions - sort of out-of-sight, out-of-mind in action.   On the other hand if a person spend time in the US and then was stationed overseas for a few years in a senior management position at the overseas affiliate it would be very good for one's career.

    I WAS TAUGHT THAT I SHOULD SEND A THANK YOU LETTER THE INTERVIEW TO THE COMPANY FOR CONSIDERING ME.  IS THAT STILL CONSIDERED APPROPRIATE TO DO AFTER AN INTERVIEW?
