Are you still interested in Software Development as a career, or do you assume AI will take over this role?

Discussion

Recent massive layoff announcements from firms such as Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Amazon, etc. stating internal AI has replaced the software development tasks of these people made headlines over the past few months. I take it all with a grain of salt because these are also the same companies that sell AI services to other companies. I'm unsure if the recent layoffs are just a marketing tool to help sell AI services or an actual reality of AI replacing human software development. Then, there's NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang stating software developers are obsolete in the face of AI... while his company sells AI hardware - go figure. The latest AI fad is "vibing" - developing software by prompting AI to write code as you go (I'm sure it's really easy to maintain... lol). At this point, I don't know what's fact and what's fiction. However, I do know that people currently interested in software development are concerned about AI replacing humans in this role. Are any of you still interested in a career in Software Development?
