"Choosing a Career: Passion, Paycheck, or Pressure?"

As students begin to think about life after school, one of the biggest questions they face is: *What career should I choose?* This decision can feel exciting, but also overwhelming. Some students already have clear dreams—becoming a doctor, a teacher, an artist, or an entrepreneur. Others are still exploring, unsure of what path to follow.

One common piece of advice is: *Follow your passion.* Many believe that doing what you love leads to a happier and more fulfilling life. But passion doesn’t always guarantee a stable income or job security. On the other hand, some students are encouraged to choose careers based on salary, job demand, or family expectations, even if it’s not something they truly enjoy.

Then there’s the added pressure from society, culture, or peers. In some families or communities, certain jobs are considered more ā€œsuccessfulā€ than others. In today’s world, where new industries and careers are constantly emerging—like digital creators, app developers, or sustainability experts—it’s even harder to know what path is right ....

1. What matters more when choosing a career—doing what you love, or earning a good salary? Why?

2. Do you feel pressure from family or society when thinking about your future career?

3. How can students prepare for jobs that don’t even exist yet?

4. Should schools focus more on helping students explore different career options? How?

5. Can your career path change over time, or do you have to pick ā€œthe oneā€ early on?..
