Although I agree with Mike Glamm , it's not just subjective — it's adaptive.

When I was coding in C++ (and some C and SAL assembler) in school — 3 decades ago — Emacs was the preferred IDE. I became so accustomed to Emacs, I hated Visual Studio 3, when I 1st used it in 1996. At my 1st job out of school, in 1997, I developed Visual Basic 6 controls and test-containers for Enterprise transaction-software (written mostly in Visual C++ 6). By the end of 1 month using Visual Studio 6, I couldn't imagine returning to Emacs. Especially, because of Visual SourceSafe.

At various times during my career, I tried to return to Emacs. Only to find that it was too difficult to return to it. For reasons as silly as, \"The rest of us are using ColdFusion. Just use ColdFusion.\"

Throughout my career, I've picked up and put down so many IDE — I cannot imagine choosing one as \"best\". I can only tell you, I have learned to love and hate them all.

I recently installed VS Codium — a non-Microsoft fork of VS Code. I still haven't launched the app. I've become too accustomed to just analyzing/editing in KWrite or FeatherPad.

I've been using basic editors, on desktop Linux, since 2014. I'm doing work for applications running on Linux servers, but clients look at my desktop and ask, \"What OS is that? I've never heard of gedit. Why aren't you running Windows?\" Some even request that I run Windows. Even when they did not supply me with a workstation or laptop. smh

I hope this helps. Experiment if you like. But, going with the flow will make your life easier.
